How to Determine Whether You Have Prescription Drug Coverage

For purposes of determining your eligibility under most prescription assistance programs for free medicine, it is important to know whether or not you have prescription drug coverage under your health plan that could disqualify you from these programs.

If you have insurance, then it is important to find out if you have an insured prescription drug benefit. In most cases you will know by reading the front or back of your insurance ID card, where it will indicate whether or not you have prescription drug coverage. Or you can always call your insurance company to determine what type of prescription drug benefits you have, they usually will have a toll-free number listed on the back of your ID card. Even if you have high co-pays for your prescription drugs, in most cases you would not be eligible for our program. If you have insurance that offers a discount prescription benefit, you would still be eligible to apply for our prescription assistance program since the discount programs are not considered prescription drug insurance. In some rare instances, if your specific prescription drug has been excluded from your plan, we may be able to help you and would encourage you to apply online so that our advocates can research your particular situation to determine if we can offer assistance.

For patients that are on Medicare, if you have a Part D program, we can usually help you while you are in the "Donut Hole", or the gap in prescription drug coverage. If you are on Medicare and have chosen not to purchase a Plan D program, in most cases you would be eligible to participate in our prescription assistance program. Since each pharmaceutical manufacturer sets their own guidelines, we would suggest that you apply with us and we will have one of our trained prescription assistance advocates contact you once they have determined the eligibility for your specific prescription drugs.

If we cannot help you, you will not be charged.
